What to expect: This beachfront resort sits at the northern end of the famed Virginia Beach boardwalk, surrounded by upscale shops and restaurants. Ocean Beach Club is just a short distance from many family-friendly attractions. Ocean Breeze Waterpark is 2.5 miles, Virginia Beach Motor World is 3 miles, and Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center is 3 miles.

Amenity highlights: The resort offers beach access and an outdoor pool surrounded by palms and potted flowers, with a poolside tiki bar and café. The pool, bar, and café are open seasonally (May through early November, weather permitting). Guests may also rent chairs, umbrellas, and private cabanas for lounging on the beach. A concierge is on hand to offer restaurant and shopping recommendations, and help plan excursions to the surrounding area.

Insider tip: A fun December to March activity is a whale-watching trip organized by the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, located three miles from the resort. Each excursion in search of humpback and fin whales is narrated by a trained expert. Visitors may also see brown pelicans and other sea birds. The sight of a whale breaching or pelican diving for schooling fish makes for a dramatic show.
